Amelia was fortunate to have grown up around photography. Her father was an avid photographer and published author. He operated a dark room in their home and taught her the art of film development. Amelia learned the craft of photography before the digital boom The learning curve of film photography afforded her the opportunity to practice a thoughtful approach to both composition and camera settings. She has carried this over into her digital photography practice and has been honored to see her work appear on a variety of web sites, print publications and most recently in The Sky’s the Limit visual art exhibition in Nashville, TN. Amelia’s photos have been purchased by individuals from around the globe. You can read her Artist Statement here.
Amelia continued in her father’s footsteps not just with her love for photography but also with her passion for writing. As a child she watched and learned from her fathers ability to blend images with words to creatively tell each story. Over the years her writing has broadened beyond the limits of academia to focus more on personal essays and story telling. A common thread that has bridged Amelia's academic writing and her story telling is her deep need to understand individuals and what makes them who they are. This thread of embracing our individual stories has allowed her to document her life and those of her children’s. She is a firm believer that it is our handling of the details of life that defines the quality of our days. She is dedicated to documenting these details and does so through her inspiring and often humorous musings. Amelia strives to live life consciously using her strengths and talents to make a meaningful difference. Her goal is to inspire others to capture the details of their lives and recognize that we are all writing our life story with every single today.
This desire to encourage others to capture the details of their own lives led Amelia to found The Studio Voice, a digital lifestyle magazine, that encourages others to express their voice in a variety of ways. She serves as both publisher and co-editor.
